Aloha Friday: Ditching Training Wheels
Yesterday, I wrote about JSL riding his big wheel bike. At the end, I mentioned that JSL might inherit NHL’s bike at some point next year. Whether or not NHL gets a new bike, we have been considering when to remove NHL’s training wheels. I was about 7 (NHL’s age) when my training wheels were removed and some of the kids in his class are riding two wheelers now. Of course, NHL’s hyper-fexiblity is an issue. Since he needs to work much harder than a normal kid to maintain his balance, riding without training wheels will no doubt be tougher for him.
My Aloha Friday question for today is: At what age did you and/or your kids start riding without training wheels?
Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life for starting this fun for Friday. Please be sure to head over to her blog to say hello and sign the MckLinky there if you are participating.

I believe I was around 6 years old.

Gosh, I don’t remember when I could…maybe 5 or 6. We took my son’s off at age 4 and our daughter at age 6. Our son is pretty “sportsy” so took to it extremely quick!

I don’t remember how old I was and my kids have yet to learn to ride without training wheels. I keep saying that I’d like to teach Kacie soon but I just keep forgetting. Poor thing, she’s going to be the oldest kid on the block with training wheels.

Ugh… my dad put me on a bike at 5 years old… no training wheels. Just push and fall. My kiddos will be given training wheels. Lol.

the oldest one not until she was 8 and it was a major source of frustration for her. we had to take her in the dark to a parking lot where her friends couldn’t see her to practice for a few weeks before she got the hang of it. the youngest was probably about five when we were able to take off the training wheels which is abt average for our neighborhood (kids get to ride all yr round so they get more practice). i like your blog!

I was either 4 or 5. I remember riding a regular bike around the block when I was 5.

Age 4 or 5 if I remember correctly. That was a long time ago. Hehe
I didn’t have training wheels. My brother put me on his old bike at age four and after falling and running into the garage I eventually got the hang of it.

It’s been awhile, but, it seems like all my kiddos were around 4 or 5 when they were able to ride without training wheels.

I think I was about 6 when the training wheels came off. I feel bad for Princess Nagger since she doesn’t have a place to ride (our gravel driveway just doesn’t cut it!) so hers are still on at 7…we might have to take her to a vacant parking lot somewhere so she can learn and shed those training wheels! 🙂

I believe I was around the age of 5… in fact yes, I had to be because it was before my brother was born (mom was pregnant). Strongly remember this because I had a bad fall after I first learned and had to get some stitches on my chin 🙂
