Aloha Friday: Harvest Time – The Devouring
Are you detecting a pattern yet? In my Wordless Wednesday post, I showed some photos of my harvest. In my Tell Me Thursday, I posted the story of my harvest. Well, today we devored our harvest. Ok, not the entire harvest. As I mentioned yesterday, I made Peanut Butter Jalepenos and Peppermint Tea. For the cucumber, we decided to go a simpler route. I sliced it up and had a taste test with a store bought cucumber we had on hand. We were pleasently surprised to find out that the home grown cucumber was sweeter than the store bought one. Alas, split amoung the four of us, the cucumber was gone all too fast. We’ll just have to keep an eye on our cucumber plant to see if any more cukes mature. Have you ever grown anything to eat in your garden? If so, what did you make with it?
Oh, and while you ponder your answer, here are some photos of the cucumber being prepared for devouring.
Thank you Kailani at An Island Life for starting this. Please head over to her blog to say hi. Also, remember to sign the MckLinky there if you are participating.
I’m sad to say that I’ve never had a garden. I’d love to but we live in Florida and most of our yard is sand.
My parents had one when I was growing up and they had loads of different veggies. I still love fresh vegetables to this day!! All but beets! Yuk!!!

I’ve grown tons of things to eat—-cukes, corn, radishes, zuchini, beets, tomatoes, potatoes, swiss chard, green beans, sweet peas, yikes as my list goes on and on. ((I enjoy gardening!!)
I do alot of canning in the fall–LOL!

Yes, amazingly enough, since I’m not too good at gardening. I’ve grown cucumbers and made relish and pickles. I’ve grown peppers and onions and made salsa. I have a couple of beds full of potatoes right now as well and they should last us over the winter. I also grow some herbs: sage, mint, dill and others. Plus lots more!

We grew tomatoes this year – and made BLTs. That’s why God invented tomatoes, right?

I love to garden and here in FL I am just now putting my seedings in the ground. I came from MN and always planted a normal spring garden….which fizzled in the FL summer heat. Last fall I planted my fall/winter garden and it does MUCH better. I grow baby tomatoes (which get eaten by my little ones right off the plants- can’t grow regular tomatoes because the squirrels eat them before they are ripe – every time) peppers, radishes, cukes, sunflowers, and herbs. So much fun for the kids to see!

I’ve never had a garden. I pretty much have a big ole’ brown thumb, two brown thumbs! My parents have always had a garden, though, so I enjoy their tomatoes, squash, and zucchini.
Have a nice weekend.

We belong to a CSA. At one time I did grow zucchini and we steamed it, grilled it, made zucchini bread, gave numerous zucchini to neighbours….

Right now we’re in a townhouse so I’ve pretty much only grown herbs which I do cook with. This year we have one tomato plant and got one tomato off of it which we ate.
My parents have a large vegetable garden and we’ve gotten zucchini, tomoatoes, green beans, kale, lettuce and so on from them. We’ve used that for various cooking.

I fell off the garden wagon this year. I had good intentions and they just flew away. 🙁
I have grown tomatoes in the past. But, since I don’t like tomatoes very much, I used them to make pasta sauces.

We have grown corn and tomatoes and yes we ate both. The corn got boiled and the tomatoes went in salads. It’s fun to grow your own veggies.

We have yet to grow any food items in our garden. I don’t have much of a green thumb as it is and my hubby works a lot. Maybe when things settle down we’ll grow some tomatoes.

I had a garden when I was about 10 and the only thing I remember growing is corn…it was great!
No sire, I have what you call a black thumb. I don’t believe I can grow anything. Although the children are thriving plants are not safe. lol

We don’t have a veggie garden now – yard’s too small. But we grew plenty to eat when I was a kid! Loved harvesting. 🙂
