Aloha Friday: Working Holiday
Every year on Christmas, I head into work while everyone else has the day off. Why? Well, being Jewish, I don’t celebrate Christmas. It’s just another day to me. So I go into work on that day and use the saved day off for another time. Given that most everyone else is at home with their families (and not calling me), I get a lot of work done. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that my office’s cafeteria gives free food to employees who work on that day.
My Aloha Friday question for today is: Have you ever worked on a holiday when everyone (or nearly everyone) else was out?
Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life for starting this fun for Friday. Please be sure to head over to her blog to say hello and sign the McLinky there if you are participating.

No, I do not remember having to work on a holiday like Christmas. But someday maybe I will.
Yes, and it was horrible. Christmas should be a national holiday where everyone gets the day off.
Well yes, when I was Nursing on the hospital ER. I worked Holidays. We were always busy.

Nothing comes to mind, but having worked in retail, I’m certain I’ve worked a few holidays!
Being in the Navy I have had my share of holidays that I have had to work plus before I got married I use to take duty for the family guys on big holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. – I definitely identify with you regarding as an IT that coming in on an off today to get caught up on work (no users to bug you).

Yes, and it wasn’t that bad. I worked in a call center and everyone had a four hour shift. I worked 1-5, so I was able to open presents and make it back in time for dinner. It was boring we received a call once every 20 minutes but it was over before i knew it.

Yep. I am usually working during this time when everyone else is out for the holiday. However, that has changed since I left my job months before. I am loving the life of leisure, however long it may last.
I did – by choice – when I was a lead bookkeeper for a restaurant. Especially on Thanksgiving day, since it’s always on Thursday, I’d come in super early, get my work done, then I’d be able to have a 3-day weekend since I wouldn’t need to go in on Friday. It was eerie but nice having the whole restaurant to myself with no one else there! 😉
