Aloha Friday: Unintentional Night Owl

The past few nights, I’ve been working some rather late hours.  Between some freelance work, blog posting, and other tasks, I’ve been getting to bed at midnight or later.  Wednesday night, I decided to take a night off and go to sleep early.  To have some fun, I played Lego Star Wars on the Nintendo DS.  Unfortunately, I got so wrapped up in the game that I didn’t get to bed until 12:30am.  So much for getting to bed early.  Add in JSL waking up at 3am and NHL’s usual 6am wake-up call and you can understand why I’m feeling exhausted.  I’ve really got to start getting to bed earlier, even if I don’t feel tired at the time.

My Aloha Friday question for today is: What time do you usually go to sleep?

Aloha Friday: Why I Wish I Was Going To #BlogHer12

In under two weeks’ time, BlogHer 2012 will begin.  I really wish I could go.  I went way back in 2010 and had a blast.  I met so many great people, connected with interesting companies, learned a lot of new things, and – let’s face it – left with some really cool swag.  Sadly, I can’t make it this year.  My schedule and finances simply do not allow it.  Of course, this year BlogHer is back in New York City which means it’s a tantalizing three hours away.

Of course, while the swag was cool, I don’t need more miscellaneous stuff.  And the sessions and company connections, while intriguing, aren’t a big enough draw for me.  What I really miss is the opportunity to see some online friends who I’ve never met in person.  In particular, I’d love to meet Anissa Mayhew and JC Little (aka LittleAnimation).

My Aloha Friday question for today is: If you went to a blogging conference and could meet any blogger or anyone active on social media, who would you meet?

Aloha Friday: Bedtime Procrastination

For the past few nights, bedtime has been a stressful time.  NHL is not to blame.  He gets into his top bunk and quickly goes to sleep.  JSL, on the other hand, has turned into the Kid Of A Million Excuses Why He Can’t Sleep.  The air conditioning is on so he’s too cold.  When I turn it off, he becomes too hot.  Then, he needs to use the bathroom (something he did before getting in bed, mind you).  Then, he needs a drink (again, something he did before going to sleep).  Then, his legs are bothering him or his toes itch or he’s not comfortable for some reason.  This will go on for over an hour until JSL is completely overtired and mom and dad are frazzled.

My Aloha Friday question for today is: Do your kids ever give bedtime excuses?  If so, how do you handle them?

Aloha Friday: Classic Books To Reread

I recently finished reading TheBloggess’ book, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened (review coming soon).  While going through some boxes, I found the motherlode of science-fiction and fantasy.  All of my old books that I poured over years ago were in there.  While most of it happens to be by Isaac Asimov, my favorite science-fiction author, one fantasy book caught my eye: The Hobbit.  I read The Hobbit a long, long time ago.  Given that the movie is coming out in December, I figured that I should reread the story of Bilbo Baggins, Galdalf and the Dwarves.

My Aloha Friday question for today is: What book are you due to reread?

Aloha Friday: Time To Post

I typically write blog posts the night before they go live.  With making and cleaning up from dinner, getting the kids in bed, freelance work and chores that need to be done around the house, though, I often don’t have much time to write posts.  Not unless I want to go to sleep at 1am.  I would love to spend hours crafting a perfect post, complete with a photo/clipart on every post to accommodate services like Pinterest, but I honestly don’t have the time.

My Aloha Friday question for today is: How much time do you spend on each blog post?
